Dhapa doesn't build a lot of instruments, but those that he does are mostly very high quality. His yidakis have what you might call an old-fashioned rustic "no nonsense, no frills" quality to them. This particular example benefits from a rather "open" feeling when you play it, and a good response to vocals, so the character is more like that of a D# than of a typical instrument in an E-F key. Although it's obviously a traditional yidaki, and adequately fulfils all possible technique requirements in this regard, it's also very suited to contemporary styles. A high quality all-rounder in fact, highly recommended for those who are starting to explore traditional playing techniques, but a real joy for the aficionado too.   Movie
